Herpes is a very common disease caused by herpes simplex virus-1 ( HSV-1 ) and herpes simplex virus-2 ( HSV-2 ). The symptoms of herpes simplex virus-1 are cold sores on the mouth, lips and face, and sores on the genitals are usually caused by herpes simplex virus-2 ;(but in some cases  HSV-1  can also cause sores on the genitals).
