QUEENSLAND, Australia December 2014 – It’s not uncommon for women to struggle with body image, poor self-worth and low self-esteem. Even celebrities like Jennifer Lopez and Mariah Carey – labelled as ‘sex symbols’ by the media – admit to battling with low confidence and worth, especially after pregnancy. Sunshine Coast photographer Paula Brennan recognises the important link for women between looking great and feeling beautiful.

Paula appreciates the significance of celebrating women at every stage of their lives through glamour photography, especially after her own struggles with unworthiness. After living with an eating disorder that affected her right into her mid-twenties, Paula found strength in her unborn daughter after she found out she was pregnant. But the strength was replaced by low self-esteem and unworthiness again as her marriage broke down, and she began to seek answers on how to improve low self-esteem.

Her answer came in Sue Bryce, a fellow photographer who showed her to how to feel beautiful within herself through glamour photography. “I met this incredible woman who’d had her own unique journey. Sue photographed me and changed my life,” Paula says. “Having suffered from innate perfectionism and low self-esteem for most of my life, when I saw myself through her eyes in those images, I saw the beauty in me that others said they had seen, but I had never noticed myself. www.paulabrennan.com.au

“Sue went on to mentor and teach me about this wonderful world of modern glamour photography. I believe that she was sent to me by a higher power because by meeting her, talking to her, and being photographed by her, she radically changed my life and I felt empowered.” www.paulabrennan.com.au

The Sunshine Coast photographer loves feeling the energy that comes with celebrating women of all ages and shapes. It’s close to her heart that women feel and think positively about themselves and their bodies.

Paula often visits homes of family and friends adorned with wedding pictures and photographs of the children, but finds that after a certain age, the woman stops existing in photos largely due to feeling self-conscious about the way she looks. “I have a deep understanding of what it feels like to constantly feel not good enough, or sadly even not beautiful. I can really help women overcome that feeling,” Paula says. “People engage with me because on some level, they connect with my message.” www.paulabrennan.com.au

Living with low self-esteem can harmfully influence many aspects of a person’s life, including relationships, job and health. Glamour photography shows women the beauty within themselves that they haven’t seen before and helps women discover how to improve low self-esteem. www.paulabrennan.com.au
