TAG Business Intelligence and Analytics Innovation Awards Finalists Announced

Signature Event to announce winner of Mid Size Enterprise and Large Enterprise Category

ATLANTA – WEBWIRE

The Technology Association of Georgia Business Intelligence & Analytics society will present the must-attend event of the year for professionals in BI, Analytics, Big Data, and related disciplines at the Westin Atlanta Perimeter North. The winners of the 2014 BI/Analytics Innovation Awards for large and small enterprises will be announced at this event, which will feature a panel discussion with the judges. These awards are presented to companies that have leveraged BI and Analytics in innovative ways in order to effect positive change in their organization.

“This year we had a dozen nominations representing a broad base of innovative companies in Georgia.  Many of these organizations are combining internal and external data to predict potential outcomes and shift their strategy to drive new sources of revenue.  The face of BI is continuously changing” says Greg Boyd, TAG BI/A Society Co-Chair.

The 2014 Business Intelligence and Analytics Innovation Awards finalists are:

 Mid Size Enterprise

  • Slalom Consulting - Client Solution

Energy Analytics-The Company’s client applied advanced analytics and leveraged a number of technology tools (SAS, Oracle and Tableau) to understand peak energy demands and to create future energy consumption models. This included creating a baseline of current energy expenditures and highlighting a set of core factors which historically drives energy consumption.

  • Columbus State University

Student Retention and Success- President Obama enacted “Complete College America” this year which changes the way public universities Colare funded.  This new “performance based model” means colleges are now accountable to assure students stay in school, progress and graduate.  CSU’s system measures retention, progression and graduation rates and delivers information to consolers to assist struggling students.  Additionally, we have created a predictive model with automated alerts so counselors can intervene and be targeted with high-risk students before they begin to struggle.

  • Lift361 – Client Solution

Predictive Weather Model for Retail Sales- The Company’s client sells swimming pool chemicals in major retail locations nationwide.  Lift361 built a model that leverages forecast weather data to identify unusual weather patterns and then communicates via e-mail to the customers in affected areas about how to adjust or alter chemicals in their pools to ensure optimum PH balance.  A real-time interactive dashboard allows thresholds to be set for above average temps and above average rainfall while also showing the specific customers affected.

Large Enterprise

  • Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta

Analytics to Improve Healthcare in Babies- In hospital intensive care units, vast amounts of monitoring data is collected in the moment only to vanish once it leaves the screen.  Using business intelligence and big data technologies, Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta created a model that enabled it to store and analyze continuous lifesaving vital sign sensor data.  The ultimate goal is to understand the impact of stressful procedures and in turn reduce pain and improve outcomes in our most fragile patients.

  • Manheim

One View of the Transaction- Manheim produces millions of transactional records every month through its physical and digital auction platforms.  Gaining consistent and timely insight into the performance of auction operations has routinely required manual consolidation of large data sets from various disparate systems.  This solution automated and consolidated all transactional data and delivered to its lines of business.

  • NCR

Business Management System for Telecommunications and Technology Division- Through innovation and thought leadership NCR delivered an automated Business Management System that provides critical sales funnel and financial metrics enabling regional leaders to have instant access to analytics to run their business.  This includes graphical representation of eleven funnel metrics and full stream P&L metrics.  Users can now easily conduct deep dive reviews to understand overall performance.

  • Dr. Jennifer Priestley – Kennesaw State University
  • Noni Gonzalez – AT&T
  • Jamie Walker – Elavon
