Gen. Paul E. Funk: “We can’t let their stories fade away."

Recognizing an opportunity to activate support for development of the Mounted Warrior Museum at Fort Hood, central Texas’ Union State Bank (USB) today announced they will match up to $250,000 for every dollar donated to the Museum before Veterans Day, November 11, 2014.  At the same time, USB challenged the national banking community to similarly support the fundraising effort to bring a national museum to Fort Hood.

“With our contribution match, we intend to activate a national surge in fundraising to support this important new museum that will celebrate our military in a highly interactive, educational and family-friendly way,” explained Coleen Beck, Union State Bank’s president. “We believe so strongly in the Mounted Warrior Museum’s mission, we are asking the national banking community to give back by launching their own challenge.”

A 501(c) (3) organization, The National Mounted Warfare Foundation (NMWF) is dedicated to the development of the Mounted Warrior Museum. Support is quickly building momentum. With an initial $10 million dollar land donation at Ft. Hood from the U.S. Army, and an additional $5 million from an anonymous donor, $23 million is still needed to make the Mounted Warrior Museum a reality.

“With the generous contribution match, the Union State Banks are bringing us closer to the day when we can all celebrate our brave warriors,” said Lieutenant General (Retired) Paul E. “Butch” Funk, former III Corps and Fort Hood Commander, now President and CEO of the National Mounted Warrior Foundation. “We can’t let their stories fade away. If everyone makes a donation, we can bring this museum to life!”

About the National Mounted Warrior Museum

The Mounted Warrior Museum will collect, protect and celebrate the legacy of our mounted American warriors, preserving for generations stories of their heroic battles, their families at the home front, and their selfless service to the US. Once complete, the Museum will feature highly-interactive and immersive exhibits both inside and outside, an interpretive trail and children’s playscapes. Simulation activities of warriors’ armament and equipment, a theater and classrooms will make the Museum a national destination for schools, families and patriots.
