Eminem and Rihanna’s Monster Helps Adults with Developmental Disabilities

Chicago, IL – WEBWIRE

With so many negative stereotypes floating around about hip hop music, I’m ecstatic to expose the positive uses of hip hop"

Having already traveled throughout the United States to acquire footage of children with Autism and adults with cognitive impairments, Chicago entertainer Kris Warren landed in Arizona to film adults with developmental disabilities for the documentary titled Music Is My Therapy: MusicTherapyDocumentary.com.

“Client preferred music is huge with Music Therapy.  Higher Octave Healing and their staff utilized Eminem’s Monster song and many other hip hop/pop tunes during my visit. With so many negative stereotypes floating around about hip hop music, I’m ecstatic to expose the positive uses of hip hop.” Warren shared.

Higher Octave Healing, is a non-profit music therapy organization in Tempe, Arizona, dedicated to increasing the quality of life and promoting the empowerment of others through a variety of music therapy-related services, research, resource, and community outreach programs.

Kristen Turner, board certified Music Therapist (MT-BC) and clinic coordinator at Higher Octave Healing said “The benefits for the adults in Music Therapy Rock Band are to increase and improve: socialization skills, self-expression, fine and gross motor skills, and cognitive functioning.  Band members choose their own songs and band name and use real instruments and equipment in supportive and adaptive ways to be successful.  This unique model was developed by Higher Octave Healing to provide positive outlets for teens and young adults with developmental disabilities; many of whom lose social opportunities once they leave high school.”

Speaking on Higher Octave Healing Kymla J. Eubanks, board certified Music Therapist (MT-BC) and CEO said “Our twelve Board-Certified music therapists promote the empowerment of others including: children, teens and adults with developmental disabilities; veterans; adults with traumatic brain injury; children and adults with cancer; teens and adults with eating disorders; adults with dementia and Alzheimer’s; and people facing end of life.

Music therapy is an evidenced-based discipline utilized in a relationship-based therapy experience” She concluded.

Warren is headed back to the Midwest to resume filming in Milwaukee next week.
