Female Magician to be First Singapore Magician Invited for Melbourne Magic Festival

Singapore – WEBWIRE

In July 2014, female Magician, Yong Tian, will be the first Singapore magician invited to perform in the Melbourne Magic Festival.

She will present her original ‘Asian Fusion’ magic show that promises a modern original spin to several world-famous traditional Asian magic acts. The show draws on her cultural heritage of her Chinese background and features highly visual & interactive magic that is designed for family audiences.

Yong Tian is one of only a handful of international acts invited to perform for the festival. She will present a total of five 45-minute shows.

The Melbourne Magic Festival was created in 2008 by The Australian Institute of Magic. The festival aims to provide Australians the opportunity to see world class performances of magic in a theatrical environment, and to provide the chance for performers to create shows that express themselves as artists.

Over the last six years, the Melbourne Magic Festival has featured more than 160 different shows seen by 40,000 people.

Nathan Ernest, an Australian magician based in Melbourne and an official for the Australian Institute of Magic is the producer for ‘Asian Fusion’:

“I’ve worked with Yong Tian on various projects in Singapore and greatly admire her work. I’m extremely proud and excited to be a part of her debut in Australia. ‘Asian Fusion’ brings a unique charm and elegance to the festival. The act stays true to the Asian roots, yet incorporates the modern spins, making it the best of both worlds!”

Yong Tian shares that, “Melbourne being often referred to as Australia’s Cultural Capital is the perfect place to showcase ‘Asian Fusion’. I am happy to be able to represent Singapore in such a way!”

‘Asian Fusion’ will run at Studio 1 - Northcote Town Hall from 30 Jun – 4 Jul 2014 (Mon – Fri) at 1pm every afternoon. Tickets for the 45-minute family magic show are priced at AUS$18 per adult and AUS$14 per child. Family and group package tickets are also available.

Besides being one of the few rare female magicians in Singapore, Yong Tian’s unique show elements have helped her to stand out from other magicians. In 2013, she was hand-picked to feature and perform in the “Heritage of Singapore Magic Show” presented by the Singapore National Heritage Board as part of the Singapore Heritage Festival 2013. Most recently in 2014, Yong Tian was awarded the ‘Outstanding Award’ for her act at Malaysia’s International Magic Extravaganza VIII.
