We thank Lynn for her many years of dedicated service, and are thrilled to welcome Ulric onboard at ABIH.

The American Board of Industrial Hygiene (ABIH) has announced that it has appointed Ulric Chung, MCS, PhD as its Chief Executive Officer. Dr. Chung will assume leadership of ABIH on July 1, 2014 from the current Executive Director, Lynn O’Donnell, CIH, who is retiring after 23 years at the organization’s helm.
In his new role as Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Chung will be responsible for continuing to grow the importance of the CIH credential within the industrial hygiene profession, ensuring that qualified professionals maintain their interest in being certified, and helping employers to understand the value of hiring and developing such expertise on their staff. Under Dr. Chung’s leadership, ABIH will continue to play a vital role in contributing to the overall growth of the profession and communicating the value of certification for occupational health and safety professionals.
Dr. Chung brings extensive experience in accreditation and management of non-profit agencies. Currently an accreditation and higher-education consultant, Dr. Chung served for five years as Executive Director of the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND). While there, he managed a $1.4 million agency budget, improved relationships with educators, and assisted his board in developing standards, policies and procedures for the accreditation of US and international education programs leading toward the practice credential.
Prior to that, he served as Assistant Executive Director of Accreditation Evaluation and Research at the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), where he helped the organization improve its accreditation activities relating to pre-service professional education and continuing pharmacy education. Dr. Chung also served as Assistant Professor in the College of Pharmacy at the University of Illinois at Chicago and held several staff positions at the University of Illinois Urbana Campus.
“Ulric’s long and distinguished career in accreditation, education, and academia, coupled with his significant management experience make him the ideal choice to lead ABIH and to grow the importance of the organization’s credentialing in the occupational health and safety profession,” said Dr. Mark Finn, CIH, Chair of the ABIH Board. “We thank Lynn for her many years of dedicated service, and are thrilled to welcome Ulric onboard at ABIH.”
“I’m very excited to join the ABIH team as its new CEO,” said Dr. Chung. “ABIH and its CIH credential are the premier standard for the profession, and I look forward to leveraging these two strong brands to take the organization and credentialing to the next level.”
