California shootings: What shaped Rodger’s actions?

It’s been less than forty-eight hours and already concern is pouring out from all over the continent regarding the murder of six people as well as the gun shot and knife wounds injuring thirteen.
CBC News reports that UC Santa Barbara senior and former sorority president Kyley Scarlet said that she was very disturbed by the video describing Elliot Rodger’s anger at sorority girls. “It’s hard thinking my actions, being part of a sorority, led him to do this,” she said.
Is this the fault of sorority sisters, though? Author of Sustainable Recovery and a previous resident of Santa Barbara, Madelaine Standing, says, “Of course not. No one can control what is going on within them self but them self... However, in our interaction with others, is it possible to reduce the positioning of ourselves as being anything more or less than those around us?”
In the video Rodgers posted on the morning of the premeditated deaths he said, “Girls, all I’ve ever wanted was to be loved and love. You think I’m unworthy of it. If I can’t have you, girls, I will destroy you. You’ve denied me and in return I will deny all of you life...”
Ms. Standing further comments, “This atrocity brings to our attention that many University led assault-prevention training efforts are not as effective as they need to be. Yet, we know that intervention training is essential for campus-safety.”
