San Antonio Cosmetic Dentist Attends Advanced Educational Course on Migraine Headaches and Neuromuscular Dentistry

WEBWIRE

Dr. Craig Carlson, San Antonio neuromuscular dentist attended a 3-day conference on Neuromuscular Dentistry as it relates to migraine headaches and temporomandibular joint disorder (TMD) during March. The course was held at The Las Vegas Institute for Advanced Dental Studies and included dentists from all over North America as well as Canada, France and Australia.

The use of the K7 myomonitor to determine precise muscle position was demonstrated in depth. The K7 is a computer that measures the state of the muscles of the head and neck similar to the EKG computer used by physicians to determine the health of the heart muscle. The relationship between hyperactive head and neck muscles and an improper bite was shown by the level of EMG readings on the K7 instrument.

Emphasis was given to determining the exact method of recording the bite at the most comfortable muscle position. The doctors in attendance were given detailed explanation of neuromuscular orthotics to relieve their patient’s symptoms and scientifically prove the accuracy of the jaw position. Imparting the knowledge that is now available for the relief of migraine and TMJ pain was the primary goal of the conference.
