A new national survey titled; What Women Want and Why by Dr. Melissa Grill-Petersen, MS, DC founder of the Be Well Institute reveals what moms really want this Mother’s Day and it is not flowers, books or jewelry.

Each year the search is on for what to buy mom to show her just how much she means to you but does a store bought gift really hit the mark? This week long survey included 152 women from across the nation that revealed a growing problem that is getting worse but that Mother’s day can help to solve.

Dr. Melissa explains, “The biggest problem that 1 in 3 women reported in the survey is the fear of failure. Moms don’t want to fail their kids, spouse, or themselves. This fear takes its toll on women’s health creating anxiety, depression, overwhelm and fatigue. Each is it’s own form of stress which is clinically linked to obesity, hormonal imbalance, metabolic syndromes, accelerated aging and chronic disease”.

So what does mom really want? The validation that she is succeeding. Moms equate success with appreciation, recognition and support so she can balance all that matters most to her says Dr. Melissa.

Is there a store bought gift that can deliver this much wanted sentiment to mom? According to the survey, yes.
·  50% of moms said they want a handmade gift.
·  57% want a day at the spa.
·  48% want a nice meal.

Regardless of what gift you give, make sure it delivers the message that she needs to hear. Don’t forget life is busy, but a little gesture of appreciation can go a long way in reducing fear and reinforcing to mom that she is a success.
