NAVTEQ TMC Codes Utilised By Navigation Software With Innovative Traffic Information Service

Destinator 6 offers sophisticated TMC-Pay Services in Germany, UK & France

Sulzbach, Germany - August 17, 2006 – NAVTEQ (NYSE: NVT), a leading global provider of digital maps for vehicle navigation and location-based solutions, is supplying map data for Destinator 6 - one of the first portable navigation software solutions which offers a TMC-Pay-Service on PDAs with no monthly or annual fees. The once only licence fee covering all countries is included in the initial purchase price of the product.

For some time, NAVTEQ has been including TMC codes in its map database ready to be utilised by navigation systems offering traffic information. Facilitated by these NAVTEQ codes, PDAs running Destinator 6 software now have access to an extra service called TrafficSam. TrafficSam currently supports TMC pay services in three countries – the TMC-pro Service from T-Systems in Germany; the Trafficmaster service in the UK; and ViaMichelin Trafic’s Premium TMC Service in France. In other countries free TMC services are supported. In due course, as additional real-time pay services become available around Europe and also in the USA, they will be integrated into the TrafficSam product. Whilst TrafficSam is RDS-based (Radio Data System) ultilising the more up-to-date and comprehensive encrypted data transmitted by TMC-Pay service providers, the Destinator software switches automatically to the freely available traffic information transmitted by radio signal in countries where no Premium TMC is available. The premium TMC messages include information gained from sensors, bridge cameras, floating vehicles and soon also GSM network information. This provides not only real-time availability of the traffic data but also greater accuracy.

Destinator 6 can also work across international borders moving seamlessly from one country map to another. This cross border feature is supported by NAVTEQ’s single global specification which means its map data flows equally well from country to country. All of which helps differentiate this system from other navigation solutions.

Destinator 6 software with TrafficSam is available now in specialist shops at an RRP of €187.50 + tax and includes very recent (Q1 2006) pan-European map data. Additional maps (e.g.. North America) are available via any Destinator dealer and can be purchased either on CD or SD card. For more information, please refer to the Destinator Technologies website.
