Autism Parenting Magazine has officially joined the Boycott of the Autism Speaks Charity

Connecticut, USA – WEBWIRE

Autism Parenting Magazine has officially joined the Boycott of Autism Speaks.

Connecticut, USA

In the latest issue of the magazine, Editor - Leslie Burby described the reasons that Autism Parenting Magazine would be joining the growing boycott against the Autism Speaks charity and its sponsors.

The Boycott was started after hearing Autism Speaks’ co founder Suzanne Wright’s Call to Action Speech to Washington D.C. in November 2013. Members of the autism community are tired of Autism Speaks’ creating a culture where Autistic people are oppressed and marginalized.

After previous attempts to get Autism Speaks to make changes failed, autistic adults and parents of autistic children have successfully collaborated on a project. In a joint letter to the sponsors of Autism Speaks, several organizations have asked major retailers to withdraw their support http://autisticadvocacy.org/2014/01/2013-joint-letter-to-the-sponsors-of-autism-speaks/. The organizations hoping to encourage major retail sponsors to stop supporting Autism Speaks include:

  • The Association for Autistic Community
  • AANE – Asperger’s Association of New England
  • Autism Women’s Network
