State Government of Victoria Simplifies Search with HP Autonomy

HP IDOL consolidates complex and high-volume searches for Victoria’s Department of State Development, Business and Innovation

PALO ALTO, Calif. – WEBWIRE

HP Autonomy today announced that the Department of State Development, Business and Innovation (DSDBI) at Australia’s State Government of Victoria is using HP IDOL (Intelligent Data Operating Layer) to provide a single point of access to internal and external information sources.

DSDBI helps grow the State of Victoria’s economy by supporting pro-business policies and programs, engaging with businesses and representing their needs to all levels of government.

DSDBI’s internal users regularly need to locate information from a number of different sources, such as HP TRIM, the DSDBI intranet, shared network drives, Salesforce, and external sites such as Hansard, Australian Bureau of Statistics, Victoria Online and the DSDBI websites. Each of these sources contains large volumes of data in a variety of formats and has its own individual search capabilities and restrictions. Users found it time consuming and inefficient to locate the information they needed.

DSDBI worked with local partner Microsearch to deploy and support HP IDOL as a single point of access to all content sources for its employees. HP IDOL forms a conceptual and contextual understanding of all information, regardless of content or format, including audio, video, images, social media, email and web content. Because HP IDOL identifies patterns across different sets of information based on concepts, DSDBI’s users are able to search all the different necessary data repositories and quickly get to the information they need.

“HP IDOL has changed the way that our users are working,” said Dr. Suresh Hungenahally, chief information security officer, Department of State Development, Business and Innovation, State of Victoria. “We’ve moved from users having to search multiple important but separate systems to having access to all the information they need at their fingertips, all through a single portal.”

HP IDOL also gives DSDBI users access to a series of advanced search tools when searching HP TRIM, such as concept cloud visualization, relevant and contextual search results, and advanced filtering.

“This is a classic example of what HP IDOL can do for modern organizations,” said Rohit de Souza, general manager, Information Analytics, HP Autonomy. “Dealing with a multitude of distributed data siloes is challenging for both administrators and end users—HP IDOL tackles that frustration head on.”
