WEBWIRE

Courcouronnes, France - Snecma (Safran) and BARON have won the MIDEST 2013 award in the “partnership/alliance” category for a joint development that combines innovation and technical performance. MIDEST is the world’s leading trade show for industrial subcontracting, and its awards recognize companies showing outstanding collaboration.

Snecma, a Safran company, is one of the world’s leading producers of aircraft and rocket engines, with over 13,000 employees worldwide. It decided to team up with a family-owned French company with 300 employees to jointly develop a robot featuring state-of-the-art technology in terms of micromechanics, automation and precision. This close partnership resulted in patents concerning the automated assembly and disassembly of cutting inserts.

“At the end of 2012 we were looking for a partner that would offer expertise in micromechanics, automation and robots, to form an integrated project team,” explains Olivier Delcourt, deputy director of the materials and processes division at Snecma. “The company BARON met all our expectations, by deploying the full range of its technical skills in this project. The resulting robot demonstrator allowed us to improve the quality of our machining and the user-friendliness of the workstation.”

Fully aware of the growing R&D challenges in its fields, over the last few years BARON has focused on bolstering its technical expertise to meet the current and future requirements of its customers. This evolving position has enabled the company – which just celebrated its 30th anniversary – to work with the leaders in a very wide range of sectors (including aerospace, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, agrifoods, etc.), and to ensure its long-term viability.

According to company founder Philippe Baron, “The results of this partnership clearly show the innovative capabilities of French industries, and their determination to maintain technological leadership in order to improve their competitiveness. We are constantly working with our customers to analyze ways of improving their production machinery and equipment. Our expertise, responsiveness and innovative mindset are also there to support our customers’ business development.”
