TWI Collaborates with Institute for Defense & Business

Organizations work toward humanitarian logistics education in the Arabian Gulf

WEBWIRE

Zug, Switzerland – TWI recently engaged in discussions with the Institute for Defense and Business (IDB) regarding the concept of constructing learning programs in Dubai to educate the local region on humanitarian logistics. Dubai’s prominence in global transportation, communications, and logistics has long established the UAE as a vital hub for international humanitarian relief. As humanitarian crises intensify, pressure on the infrastructure and communications will test the efficiency of humanitarian operations.

To fully utilize the UAE’s world-class facilities, the IDB proposes expanding its current North Carolina-based logistics curriculum to the Arabian Gulf. IDB seeks educational collaboration with governmental authorities in the Gulf-especially the International Humanitarian City-that focuses on logistics and contingency operations. These learning opportunities would enhance the skill levels of the professional leadership in the area and improve the overall performance and continuing appeal of UAE logistics infrastructure and facilities.

Moving forward, IDB will engage directly with UAE-based corporations, governmental counterparts, and existing training and education institutions regarding the cooperation in humanitarian logistics through UAE-based educational programs. Once these programs attain the necessary demand, IDB will begin publishing details of educational offerings and administrative issues. Under the right conditions, initial seminar offerings could begin as early as 2015.

About the Institute for Defense & Business
The IDB is a non-profit research and education institute formed in 1997 by the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and the state of North Carolina. As an independent legal entity governed by a Board of Directors, the IDB maintains a close partnership with UNC Chapel Hill and its Kenan-Flagler Business School, the 16-campus UNC system and many other nationally-recognized universities.
