For the second time, Red Dot is guest of the South-Chinese seaport Xiamen with an exhibition, the Red Dot Design Forum and the premiere of an academic seminar programme. Along with Mr Lin Guo Yao, Deputy Mayor of the Xiamen Municipal Government, Professor Dr. Peter Zec, initiator and CEO of Red Dot, opened the “Xiamen International Business of Design Week – Red Dot in China” event.

Until 12 November 2013, Red Dot presents more than 120 award-winning products by 92 companies in an inspiring Best Practice show. In assigned booths, the Red Dot laureates introduce their design studios and works. Since the opening, more than 5,000 people gathered at the Red Dot exhibition and the visitor number is likely to be doubled at the end of the Xiamen International Business of Design Week. A proof that design is a topic which attracts consumers and manufacturers alike.

Accordingly, the Red Dot Design Forum on 8 November 2013 was also a great success: In their lectures, internationally renowned design experts explained the connection between good product design and commercial success and how creativity can specifically be supported. Moderated by Red Dot juror Vivian Wai-kwan Cheng, Prof. Dr. Peter Zec, Hideshi Hamaguchi, Martin Dabyshire, Prof. Axel Thallemer, Prof. Renke He, Prof. Danny Venlet, Dirk Schumann, Nicola Zanetti und Silawat Virakul presented their thoughts on the topic, which has been further discussed afterwards at the podium.

The lectures have been intensified within the Red Dot Academy on 9 and 10 November 2013, which focused on design management in its first seminar. The programme that is geared to designers and design managers, but also to entrepreneurs and marketing experts who wish to get further training in the field of design, provided insights into a discipline which is still rather unexplored.
