Colubris Smashes the 14 Phone Barrier

First to Achieve Toll-Quality on 16 Phones With Data on a Single Access Device in Independently Verified Tests

Waltham, MA and Portland, OR, 03/16/2005, Colubris Networks announced today that the Colubris Multiservice Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) System smashed the 14 Voice over Wi-Fi (VoWi-Fi) phone barrier in independently-verified tests setting the benchmark for voice quality and capacity in a WLAN system. This means Enterprise IT managers using the Colubris Multiservice WLAN System can deploy VoWi-Fi services and applications on a broader scale than ever before.

“Colubris Networks utilized VeriWave’s VoIP over WLAN Test Suite to verify the proper handling of 16 VoWi-Fi calls with a single Colubris access device,” said Dr. Thomas Alexander, CTO, VeriWave. “The methodology used by Colubris is consistent with the industry accepted practice of measuring real-world voice quality, in the form of an R-value, in ideal conditions, as well as in the presence of other data traffic. The Colubris system achieved impressive performance, while handling 16 concurrent voice sessions.”

The Colubris Multiservice WLAN, using SpectraLink 802.11-capable H.323 handsets, supported 16 active, toll-quality voice sessions and data running across a single access device. “Voice over IP over Wi-Fi (VoWi-Fi) is going to be a huge driver of the entire WLAN industry,” said Craig J.
