• DHL Global Forwarding already started operations, followed by DHL Freight in December

DHL Global Forwarding, the air and ocean freight specialist of Deutsche Post DHL, has started operations from a new terminal at Budapest Airport. Budapest Airport Business Park has provided a state-of-the-art facility, strategically located with easy access to highways and direct connection to the airport. The new building will serve as a logistics center for both DHL Global Forwarding and DHL Freight, leveraging synergies for the efficient handling of international as well as domestic shipments. DHL Global Forwarding already started operations in August, whereas DHL Freight will move to its new premises in December.

“Central and Eastern Europe is an important growth region for our Group. The new terminal is a significant milestone in DHL’s continuous course of expansion and by investing into our presence at Budapest Airport we lay the foundation for further supporting our customers with even more efficient logistic services”, said Frank Appel, CEO Deutsche Post DHL, at the inauguration ceremony.

To handle the rapidly growing volume of shipments, both DHL Global Forwarding and Freight will occupy a total of 17,000 m2, of which 8,000 m2 are designated for warehouse operations. Additionally, the new building, which will also serve as the new headquarters of DHL Global Forwarding and Freight Hungary, comprises 3,000 m2 for office facilities as well as 6,000 m2 of maneuvering area.
Hungary has been and will remain a very important market

“Based on the positive feedback of customers and business partners, we have made the right decision by relocating our business to the new facility. Increased employee satisfaction also reaffirms to us that the new environment meets all expectations. DHL Global Forwarding continues to offer the best quality logistics solutions, near the airport with easy access to public roads”, said Zoltán Rezsek, CEO of DHL Global Forwarding Hungary.

Altogether more than 200 employees of DHL Global Forwarding and Freight will work at the facility. They will take care of around 18,000 tons of air freight and 16,200 TEUs of ocean freight shipments. Additionally more than 50,000 of less than truckload (LTL) shipments and more than 33,000 full truckload (FTL) shipments will be handled per annum. The new facility has 46 docking stations and 48 doors for loading and unloading.

“Hungary has been and will remain a very important market for us. According to DHL Freight’s macroeconomic market intelligence report, the country’s development will continue to improve by 2.4% in export and 2.2% in import rates. The improved facility will allow us to easily cope with this growth and the two business units will drive continuous improvement across the company and remain keenly focused on quality operations”, said Péter Bartha, CEO of DHL Freight Hungary.

Thanks to the facility structure, DHL can handle the consolidation and deconsolidation of collection containers more efficiently, also improving cooperation and leveraging the respective offerings of different divisions. Beside the development of cross docking business, the new terminal will allow DHL Global Forwarding to build and break down airfreight pallets on site.
