Schneider Power Begins Wind Farm Construction

WEBWIRE

TORONTO -- 11/09/2004 -- Canadian Wind Power Developer Schneider Power Inc. announced today that it will commence with the construction of the Providence Bay Wind Farm on Manitoulin Island in spring of 2005 with commissioning of the first turbine expected by late September.

Providence Bay is being built independent of the Government of Ontario’s 300MW RFP and is the first large-scale wind power project to be built in five years. GE Wind Energy has been selected as the exclusive supplier of wind turbines. The electricity generated at the wind farm will be sold under long-term power purchase agreements to provincial utilities.

“We are happy to be kick-starting Ontario’s wind energy industry and are committed to the Government’s goal to introduce renewable energy to the province,” said Thomas Schneider, president of Schneider Power Inc.

With over eight projects in development in Manitoba, Ontario and Nova Scotia, Schneider Power Inc. is one of Canada’s leading privately owned wind power developers. Headed by the Chairman, Bernd Schneider, the family has over 110 years of experience in developing clean, renewable energy.
