Novell Delivers First Major Milestone in Sentinel Integration

Tight integration with Novell products and additional language support extends Novell’s leadership in the security and event management market

WALTHAM, Mass.—09 Aug 2006— Novell today announced the first significant update to SentinelTM from Novell®, the security information and event management solution acquired with e-Security. This release marks a key milestone in Novell’s commitment to delivering a single, real-time view of security and compliance activities across the entire enterprise. Providing security and event monitoring with response and reporting capabilities, Sentinel has been fully integrated with Novell’s platforms, including SUSE® Linux Enterprise Server, and identity management solutions. In addition, Sentinel from Novell is now offered in additional languages including German, French, Spanish, Italian, and Portuguese – opening up new markets across Europe and around the world. Now, customers can easily streamline previously labor-intensive and error-prone processes and build a more rigorous, predictable security and compliance monitoring program.

“All organizations are looking for help in coping with the huge amounts of information required to manage security and compliance challenges,” said Armando Sacristán Medel, business solutions manager at SIA. “Sentinel provides a solid foundation that saves time, effort and money by consolidating, filtering and correlating data to create a single view of all relevant information. In our market, local language support is a clear sign of Novell’s commitment to this technology.”

By combining the security information and event management (SIEM) and identity and access management (IAM) functionality of two key Novell product lines, customers can now manage their compliance and security risks using a single, integrated audit infrastructure.

Elisabeth Conseil Colonna, business expert for security management at Telindus, explained, “Our customers are looking for an integrated solution; they don’t have the time or the resources to manage and track multiple reporting mechanisms. The single, real-time dashboard provided by Sentinel from Novell gives users a composite view of all security and compliance events across their corporate network. Integration with Novell’s identity management capabilities adds even more value. Working with Novell, we can help our customers build more comprehensive, effective security and compliance solutions that deliver the right information to the right people.”

Acquired with e-Security in April 2006, Sentinel from Novell integrates and monitors information and events from across an organization’s networked infrastructure, including data from identity and access management products and third-party systems and devices such as firewalls, routers, anti-virus, asset discovery/inventory, configuration management, intrusion detection systems, mainframes, network devices, vulnerability scanners, load balancers and others. By incorporating information from across the entire network, customers can benefit from a comprehensive, real-time view of activities associated with systems, devices and people, enabling them to respond to threats more effectively and document the effectiveness of their IT controls.

Reed Harrison, CTO of Novell compliance solutions, said, “When Novell acquired e-Security and included Sentinel into its security and identity management product portfolio, we committed to delivering a fully integrated version by the end of summer. We’ve accomplished that goal – giving our customers a way to more easily incorporate Sentinel’s real-time event monitoring capabilities with Novell’s identity and access management solutions. We’ve also added additional language support to help meet the security and compliance needs of our global customers.”
