DALLAS - Are you in the mood for some outdoor yoga? How about Zumba or tai chi? These and other fitness programs offered in Klyde Warren Park in downtown Dallas now have an official sponsor. Global health service company Cigna (NYSE: CI) has made a two-year commitment to become the exclusive sponsor of all fitness programs offered in the urban park. As part of the sponsorship, these programs will be promoted as “Health and Wellness at Klyde Warren Park Presented by Cigna.” A Cigna Foundation grant will help fund the planned healthy activities.

“When people think about Klyde Warren Park we want them to think about fitness and all of the wonderful activities offered in the park that can help them stay healthy,” said LaMonte Thomas, Cigna’s president and general manager for North Texas and Oklahoma. “As a company that’s dedicated to health improvement and building healthy communities, we’re thrilled to have this opportunity to support the fitness programs of Klyde Warren Park. We invite all of the residents of the Metroplex to come down to the park and get active in a beautiful outdoor setting.”

Cigna will also be the official sponsor of activities located on the East Lawn of the park, within “The Commons.” These activities include badminton, croquet, foosball, ping pong and a French game called pétanque. In this game, players stand in a circle and throw balls as close as possible to a small target called a jack.

“The object is to have fun while staying active,” Thomas said.

“Klyde Warren Park is privately supported, and financial resources are always stretched thin, so corporate sponsorships like Cigna’s are an enormous help,” said Tara Green, president of the Woodall Rodgers Park Foundation, managing organization for Klyde Warren Park. “Cigna’s support will help ensure that the park remains a vital part of our community, with fun and healthy activities that are open to all who live and visit here.”

As part of the sponsorship, Cigna health coaches will participate in the park’s speaker series.

“We have dozens of health coaches and health educators, based right here in the Metroplex, who can present programs on physical fitness, nutrition, stress management and many other health and wellness topics. They’re looking forward to sharing their expertise with the community,” Thomas said.

Cigna employs approximately 2,000 people at its corporate office in Plano and elsewhere in North Texas.
