The American Board of Industrial Hygiene (ABIH) provides liaisons for local sections of the American Industrial Hygiene Association (AIHA).

The American Industrial Hygiene Association has over 60 local sections throughout the United States and another 6 international sections.  These local sections, or regional chapters, provide an ideal opportunity for AIHA members to come together and network while providing local access to professional development opportunities and the chance to exchange best practices.

According to the AIHA website, each region may have their own special concerns and the activities of one local section may vary from another.  However, the purpose of each local section remains the same:

  • Protect the health and safety of workers and the community
  • Increase knowledge of industrial hygiene and occupational health and safety in a specific region
  • Promote the profession and cooperate with government, industrial, educational, and other professional bodies
  • Share a concern about the health of workers worldwide as well as the special concerns of your regional area

In support of the AIHA’s local sections, the American Board of Industrial Hygiene has Directors who are assigned as liaisons to each of these chapters. “Having ABIH Directors available to local AIHA sections is a great way for the two organizations to work together,” reported Tracy Parsons, CIH, Administrative Program Manager at ABIH.   “This is also a great way for ABIH to receive input directly from our ABIH Diplomates. This allows our ABIH Directors to adequately represent the Diplomate interests on matters affecting their certification. Local sections are encouraged to contact their ABIH liaisons to address any certification related issues when questions arise.”

ABIH has posted a list of local section liaisons that can be seen at:
