New York, NY - Special Materials Company (SMC) is pleased to announce that the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has granted registration to the company’s Avancid ®75 biocide product for use in water treatment and oilfield applications. Avancid ®75 biocide is a seventy five percent solution of tetrakis (hydroxymethyl) phosphonium sulfate (THPS), a widely used and highly effective chemistry for water treatment.

According to Tom Haack, Global Business Manager at Special Materials Company, “Avancid ®75 biocide provides our customers with a more cost-effective solution for mitigating problems associated with bacterial growth in industrial and oilfield water systems than has previously been available to them. Our company philosophy has always been to offer superior products with proven performances at a very competitive price and Avancid ®75 biocide delivers all that.”

Avancid ®75 biocide is a fast-acting microbiocide that controls troublesome bacteria and dissolves iron sulfide at low use levels. It is stable and effective in high sulfide environments, and is recognized for its benign environmental profile and rapid decomposition after discharge. These properties make it a product of choice for oil recovery operations and industrial water treatment systems.

Avancid ®75 biocide is a registered trademark of Special Materials Company.
