Jazz Tuesdays is a tradition that was inspired by the influential bebop trumpeter Dizzy Gillespie, with whom Mike Longo recorded and performed as a long-time member of Dizzy Gillespie’s quintet.

Hailing from Cincinnati, Mike Longo is an accomplished jazz music pianist, composer, and author. Known for his work with Dizzy Gillespie, Longo earned a Bachelor of Music degree from Western Kentucky University, and studied with pianist Oscar Peterson. Currently residing in New York, Mr. Longo’s busy schedule includes teaching professional musicians, leading his trio, big band and helping emerging artists through the time-honored method of apprenticeship. Among the awards Longo has received include a Downbeat Hall of Fame Scholarship and a National Endowment for the Arts Grant. He has released 18 jazz music albums as a leader, and appeared as a sideman or composer on more than 50 more jazz albums, in addition to his educational publications, The Rhythmic Nature of Jazz DVDs and books.
