The American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) recently released the 2013 ASHRAE Handbook – Fundamentals.  The handbook provides a broad range of information for HVAC&R engineers and others about the latest developments, fundamentals and research impacting the industry.

The 2013 ASHRAE Handbook – Fundamentals includes a chapter on air contaminants that has garnered a lot of attention in the HVAC&R community.  The chapter covers topics ranging from the classes of air contaminants, particulates, gases and contaminant sources.  Instrumental in helping to develop this chapter was Dr. Ashish Mathur, Vice President of Innovation & Technology at UltraViolet Devices, Inc. (UVDI).

The 11th chapter, discussing air contaminants, was written by several industry experts serving on the ASHRAE technical committee.  It reads, “Air contamination is a concern for ventilation engineers when it causes problems for building occupants.  Engineers need to understand the vocabulary used by the air sampling and building air cleaning industry.  This chapter focuses on the types and levels of air contaminants that might enter ventilation systems or be found as indoor contaminants.”  Dr. Mathur was asked to provide his expertise on this important topic as a leading scientist in the HVAC&R and indoor air quality (IAQ) industries.

“It is an honor to once again have scientists from UVDI contribute to important industry publications and reference materials,” stated Richard Hayes, President of UVDI.  “Dr. Mathur’s insight and expertise in understanding air contaminants are utilized everyday to provide UVDI’s clients with the best products and technologies available.  It’s an enormous benefit for the entire industry to be able to share his knowledge through contributions to the 2013 ASHRAE Handbook – Fundamentals.”
