Sydney Bus Lanes To Be Corrupted Under Opposition Plan

Bus lanes corrupted opposition plan

Sydney, Australia, 27 May 2013 – The NRMA and the NSW Opposition, have today released a plan for the utilization of bus lanes by private vehicles. Sydney based Bus and Tour Operator, Rob Sinclair, believes that the NRMA and the NSW Opposition Road Spokesman, Ryan Park, have got it wrong, with their plans to make Bus Lanes accessible to privately registered cars.

“Their theory is that allowing cars with a driver and three passengers to use bus lanes will encourage car pooling. That was the same theory behind the original implementation of Bus Lanes. To encourage the use of public transport,” says Mr. Sinclair.

“This in itself has been, to some degree a failure, as is shown by the ever increasing number of vehicles using Sydney Roads. NSW police agree it will be impossible to monitor,” Mr. Sinclair says.

“The real solution to the roads congestion is to remove vehicles from them, not by allowing vehicles to use lanes that are designed to help maintain the schedule of vehicles designed for multiple passenger movements. The space taken up by 2 cars is close to the same taken up by a bus, some of which are transporting close to 100 passengers. Why do we want to discourage the use of these vehicles? They are not only better for the traffic flow, but the environment as well.”

Mr. Sinclair said that he is calling on the NSW Government needs to hold a summit of interested parties, those who actually use the roads rather than the motoring bodies, to get a better understanding of what the needs of road users are.

Mr. Sinclair is the owner operator of Here To There Coaches, who specialise in several NSW tourism destinations, Airport and Corporate transfers and in no way stands to benefit from any government funding as he has suggested, simply because he is not in the same market as those who he is proposing the funding be directed at.

Mr. Sinclair has set up a Facebook page for further comments from road users and interested parties, which can be located at http://www.facebook.com/ReduceSydneysRoadChaos
