Zero Footprint Client based on ClientSide’s Chatterbox Platform

July 26, 2006 – Denver, Colo. – Jabber, Inc. today announced Jabber Messenger for the Web 5.0 for Federal Government customers. The zero footprint client communicates directly with Jabber Extensible Communications Platform (Jabber XCP) servers by running inside a user’s Web browser via Asynchronous JavaScript and XML (AJAX).

“For many customers, specifically within the Federal Government where Jabber, Inc. has substantial traction, they want to quickly deploy standards-based secure and compliant instant messaging (IM) and other presence services without having to touch every desktop,” said Joe Hildebrand, chief technology officer of Jabber, Inc. “Jabber Messenger for the Web 5.0 delivers the functionality of Jabber XCP IM, text conferencing, and more without having to install anything beyond a Web browser on the desktop.”

Based on ClientSide’s flagship Chatterbox client, Jabber Messenger for the Web 5.0 is a full-featured IM client that requires no installation and is compatible with open standards such as the Extensible Messaging and Presence Protocol (XMPP)—an emerging standard in the Federal Government.

“AJAX enables Chatterbox and now Jabber Messenger for the Web 5.0 to offer a true zero footprint experience that is easily administered, runs securely in any environment, consumes a minimum of bandwidth, and will work anywhere a Web browser is present,” said ClientSide’s Founder and Chief Executive Officer, Ian Paterson. “Add to this the ability to integrate the client experience into customer portals, Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) encryption, and the ability to customize features—not just skins—and you have a solution that is well suited to the requirements of Federal Government customers.”
