Peel Paramedics Bring Home the Gold...Again

WEBWIRE

BRAMPTON, ON. – For the second year in a row, Peel Paramedics Alicia Wuebbolt and Rebecca Firth took top spot in the primary care division at the National Paramedic Competition held at Durham College in Whitby. The annual skills competition is an opportunity to acknowledge the medical expertise paramedics bring to their patients.

“We’re extremely proud of Alicia’s and Rebecca’s second win,” says Paramedic Chief Peter Dundas. “Involvement in a skill competition like this is a testament to the commitment our paramedics have for both the profession and the people they care for.”

Thirty-six teams, including four from the Netherlands competed in the advanced care, primary care or student paramedic divisions of the competition. Each completed five rescue scenarios which included everyday calls to extreme emergencies plus an academic exercise.

“Participating gives us a chance to learn different tricks of the trade from other paramedics,” says Peel Regional Paramedic Alicia Wuebbolt. “Rebecca and I work well as a team and we’re grateful for our instructors who are dedicated to helping us develop our skills.”

Joel D’Eath and Jeff Meadows represented Peel Regional Paramedic Services well in the advanced care paramedic division.

Since 2003, teams from across Canada and Europe have competed in the one-day, skill-testing event. For more information, visit paramediccompetition.ca.
