Brompton Urban Challenge event announced

WEBWIRE

Brompton Bicycle today revealed details of a brand new non-competitive event, the Brompton Urban Challenge, to be held in London on May 19th.

The format of the Urban Challenge will offer participants something a little different to a traditional cycling event as it will be orienteering skill and ingenuity that will define the winning teams, rather than speed. In the urban jungle of the UK capital, teams of Brompton owners will ride around the city completing some Brompton-based challenges (Brompton track stand anyone?) and picking up points along the way by photographing the bikes in different places and scenarios. Those not taking part will be able to watch it all unfold and keep up to date through Brompton’s social media channels as participants photos are uploaded in real-time.

Participants will be tasked with navigating between set checkpoints to be announced on the day; members of the Brompton team will be present at each checkpoint to assign teams new challenges, help to send photos back to HQ and even offer a few clues. Once the challenges are completed, Bromptoneers will be welcomed at Look Mum No Handsfor a post-event reception with some top refreshments. The cafe will be turned into a gallery, showing off the best of the photos taken during the day and we’ll be raffling off our favourite framed photographs to raise money for the Brompton charity of choice, Re-Cycle.

The idea for the Urban Challenge originated in Italy, where the first such event was held last autumn. The Brompton distributor and event organiser recalls its success: “The range of photos was fantastic - people really showed how well the Brompton can integrate into daily life!” Following the event’s popularity we decided that this year it was time to bring the concept to Brompton’s home city. For clues and an insight into the day’s format, have a look at this video from the Brompton Urban Challenge in Milan last year.

Since introducing the hashtag associated with the event, #BUCLDN, to social media followers last week there has been growing interest in the event. There are 125 places available for the event, and registration will open on Wednesday at midday. Priced at £10 per entrant, registration is open to both individuals and teams, with the full amount being donated to Re-Cycle.

Further details about the event are available on our website and for any further questions, please contact marketing@brompton.co.uk.

Registration, priced at £10 per entrant, opens on Wednesday April 24th at midday.
