GE Oil & Gas to Host Invitational Careers Event at Nailsea Subsea Controls Facility in UK

WEBWIRE

BRISTOL, U.K. — GE Oil & Gas (NYSE:GE) today announced that its Subsea Systems business is hosting an invitation-only careers showcase event at its Nailsea subsea controls facility in Bristol this Saturday, April 20. The event comes as GE is looking to fill 100 new positions and is expanding its U.K. subsea production facilities to meet the strong demand for offshore oil and gas production equipment.

GE Oil & Gas is looking to fill 60 new positions at its Nailsea Centre of Excellence for Subsea Controls and 40 additional jobs at its new Bristol subsea equipment hub in Aztec West, U.K.

The U.K. is recognised as a global innovation centre for subsea engineering. At its facilities throughout the U.K., GE is developing extremely complex and advanced technical solutions that will meet the challenges of safely and efficiently recovering deep-sea oil and gas reserves to power the world.

To meet these challenges, GE is seeking to fill a variety of job opportunities in disciplines including engineering, electrical, software, systems, project management and planning, along with supporting roles in the company’s quality and commercial contract professional teams.

The company expects to receive at least 50 applicants who will listen to business presentations and tour the Nailsea site. Also, GE hiring managers will be on hand to answer questions and interview potential applicants. GE’s invitational career events are unique and only candidates who have the skill sets the company requires today or for future opportunities will be invited to attend.

“There is an abundance of talent of manufacturing and engineering people in Bristol and with the lack of oil and gas competition in the local area, we are finding that there are many industries with people who have transferrable skills, which we consider to be a strong fit in the subsea industry,” said Dean Arnison, subsea controls business leader—GE Oil & Gas. “Events such as the Invitational Career Day illustrate what an exciting company GE Oil & Gas is, allowing us to showcase our state-of-the-art facilities, the wide range of opportunities we offer, and the high-calibre people who already work for us. Hiring managers meet candidates face-to-face so both have a better understanding about how the company functions and the type of people we are looking for.”

Added Arnison: “The highly regarded competence of the skilled U.K. workforce and the quality of our technology, particularly in the subsea sector, is very much in demand. We are seeing significant growth in new orders from around the globe, which means we are well placed to create jobs that benefit the U.K. economy. Our industry segment is growing faster than other areas in the energy sector and we can expect this trend to continue for the medium-to-long term.”

GE’s Nailsea Centre of Excellence for Subsea Controls opened in 1979. Since then, more than 1,000 subsea control modules have been manufactured and delivered worldwide. The company currently employs more than 700 people from all over the world.

The Nailsea invitational career event is the latest step in GE’s ongoing growth and recruitment strategy, reflecting a sign of continued optimism across the global energy sector.

The career event is being held at GE’s facility at 2 High Street, Nailsea in Bristol between 9 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 20, 2013.
