Delphi wins PACE award for Diesel Common Rail technology

WEBWIRE

DETROIT — Delphi Automotive (NYSE: DLPH) was awarded an Automotive News PACE (Premier Automotive Suppliers’ Contribution to Excellence) Award for the Delphi F2e Ultra High Pressure Heavy Duty Diesel Common Rail System. The company now has 16 PACE awards — more than any other company.

Additionally, Delphi was a finalist in the product category for the MyFi Connected Navigation Radio and Vehicle Sound Generator and the Gen 4 Pressure Sensor in the manufacturing process category.

“We’ve worked hard at Delphi to create a global culture of innovation,” said Jeff Owens, Delphi’s chief technology officer. “Our recipe for success is simple: create the products that customers care about and consumers demand. This PACE Award is a validation of our hard work at meeting those standards.”

Presented annually, the PACE award recognizes superior innovation, technological advancement and business performance by automotive suppliers. Judging is independent and performed by distinguished and highly-experienced industry representatives focused on real-world benefits.

Delphi’s 2013 PACE Award winner:

F2e Distributed Pump Common Rail System
The Delphi F2e Ultra High Pressure Heavy Duty Diesel Common Rail System is one of a modular family of diesel fuel injection systems developed by Delphi engineers to address the future needs of heavy-duty truck engines. The injection systems provide high pressure performance (up to 3,000 bar) in conjunction with precise injection quantity control to help meet tomorrow’s stringent emissions targets. The flexible package of F2e offers a compact, modular and integrated high pressure common rail system, while the high efficiency and low parasitic losses help maximize fuel efficiency, leading to a direct fuel saving benefit to the end user.

Delphi’s 2013 PACE Award finalists:

Vehicle Sound Generator
Delphi’s Vehicle Sound Generators enable pedestrians to detect nearly silent hybrid and electric vehicles and allow automakers to meet upcoming global government safety legislation for EV/HEVs. Delphi’s single-box vehicle sound generator is approximately three times lighter than a conventional multi-box system and uses 90 percent less power, making it the most environmentally-friendly solution available. Delphi’s innovative sound generator will be featured on hybrid and electric vehicles from six leading global OEMs for models sold in Europe and in Asia.

MyFi Connected Navigation Radio
The Delphi MyFi Connected Navigation Radio (CNR) is a feature-rich, embedded infotainment system designed to allow vehicle manufacturers to differentiate their brands through entertainment, information and communication. Since its initial product launch on the 2011 Audi A1, the MyFi CNR platform has been adopted on several Audi models.

Gen 4 Pressure Sensor
The first generation of Delphi’s Pressure Sensor was the size of a standard computer mouse when first launched and required separate production lines for each model. Today, the sensor’s programmable active component is miniaturized to the size of a pea. As a result, the manufacturing floor space has been reduced by 80 percent and the product runs on a single production line with a large array of end models all customized to meet a diversified customer base.
