Mando Group put together a rigorous interview day in order to secure the right person for their Student Placement year.

Recently recognised as number 43 in the top 100 companies to work for, Mando Group have always been passionate about seeing the opportunities of others increased by their small contributions; one of their focuses through their charitable foundation is to enhance the education and employability skills of young people in Merseyside. The student programmer placement year is their way of making a difference to the chosen candidate.

In response to their job description, they received a large number of applications from numerous courses at Liverpool John Moore’s University.  First round interviews were held early in March, with four strong candidates shortlisted as finalists, who were then invited to attend an assessment day at Mando Group offices in Liverpool.  The day consisted of a variety of tasks, both formal and informal; the initial ice breaker session involved the candidates working as a team to successfully drop an egg from a height without it breaking, given limited materials and a short amount of time. Fortunately, no eggs were harmed in this process, as the team was successful in protecting it from the drop.  The applicants also had the opportunity to meet existing staff from various departments and ask questions, hear about their day-to-day roles, and see some of the projects they were working on.

The day proved to be a great success and Mando are thrilled to now welcome Robert Langford of Crosby a placement year at Mando Group. Robert will be joining the team in May and will receive a well-rounded experience of the different departments in the company and get a real feel for life in the working world.

Gary Pretty, Deputy Head of Programming commented:
“The process of finding the right candidate for our company has been a learning curve for both Mando Group and the candidates we interviewed; we are really excited about working with Robert and giving him the best possible opportunity to further himself at this early stage of his career.”

This is a first for Mando Group, but we look forward to continuing this process in years to follow so we can continue to make a difference through sharing what we know best, our knowledge and skills.
