NEW YORK - As part of an ongoing commitment to cover the issues that matter most to our nation’s veterans and troops, the NBCUniversal News Group will provide comprehensive coverage on “TODAY,” “NBC Nightly News,” MSNBC, CNBC, NBC 4 New York, NBCNews.com, TheGrio.com and NBCLatino.com, from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation’s job fair on Wednesday, March 27.

Through interviews and taped pieces, the Group’s anchors and correspondents will take an in-depth look at the myriad of issues facing our veterans as they try to enter the workforce and return to civilian life. The conversation will also extend on social media using the hashtag #HiringOurHeroes.

“We owe our veterans a tremendous debt of gratitude,” said Pat Fili-Krushel, Chairman, NBCUniversal News Group. “By mobilizing the platforms of our news group to highlight the many issues our veterans, and their families, encounter as they transition from military service to civilian life, we hope to raise awareness, provide resources to help them find jobs and continue the conversation about this very important topic.”

In addition to Wednesday’s extensive coverage, which is also supported with coverage by NBC’s Owned Stations and affiliates at other U.S. Chamber job fairs that began earlier in the month; NBC Publishing will make available two free eBooks on NBCNews.com specifically geared towards veterans. The first, Heroes Get Hired: How to Use Your Military Experience to Master the Interview, written by Michelle Tillis Lederman and sponsored by Citi, serves as a resource to aid veterans in the difficult career transition from military service into civilian employment.

The second, Everyone Serves: A Handbook for Family and Friends of Service Members During Pre-deployment, Deployment and Reintegration, debuts on Wednesday, March 27. This unique handbook was developed with Blue Star Families and Vulcan Productions to help the family, friends and support network of United States service members better understand what to expect from a deployment and reintegration life cycle, and help them stay strong before, during and after separations.

And this summer, NBC News and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce will launch a jobs and education resource portal to connect veterans and their families with up-to-date tools and information to help them in their transition after returning home from military service. The hub will also feature preeminent resources from leading industry partners, including the new U.S. Chamber’s Personal Branding tool (ResumeEngine.org).

These efforts follow the announcement last month from Comcast and NBCUniversal, who committed to a three-year goal of hiring 1,000 veterans as part of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation’s ‘Hiring our Heroes’ initiative, that they met their goal two years ahead of schedule and pledged to hire an additional 1,000 veterans by 2015.

About Hiring our Heroes:

Hiring Our Heroes launched in March 2011 as a nationwide effort to help veterans and military spouses find meaningful employment. As a key partner in this effort, Comcast and NBCUniversal have hired 1,000 veterans in the last year to work in a variety of positions at all levels, including network engineering, technology, operations, theme parks and resorts, programming, customer service, marketing, human resources and other careers. Comcast and NBCUniversal’s pledge contributes to the Chamber’s Hiring 500,000 Heroes campaign, the largest private sector commitment of its kind with a goal of hiring half a million veterans and military spouses by the end of 2014. To date, businesses have pledged to hire more than 210,000 veterans and military spouses, and 93,000 hires have been confirmed.
