(Mpls,MN) The North American Wood Window and Door Symposium will be held April 18-19 at the Radisson Hotel in Roseville, Minn. Industry professionals, architects, contractors, designers, researchers, and policy makers who influence construction materials selection are encouraged to register.  The regional chapter of the Forest Products Society (FPS), in conjunction with FPS International, is organizing the symposium to educate attendees of the benefits of wood fenestration as well as instruction in optimal performance of these products.

Kathryn Fernholz, Executive Director of Dovetail Partners, will speak at the event and address the topic of sustainable forestry during the morning session on April 19th. Kathryn is a forester and experienced forest certification auditor who has inspected forest management practices throughout the United States. Dovetail Partners is a Minneapolis-based non-profit organization that provides environmental information.

“Whether being made into windows, doors, or other products, it is good to know wood is coming from forests that are being cared for in a meaningful way, by thoughtful professionals using the best available science and public input,” says Fernholz.

In many regions, wood is a locally available resource that appeals esthetically, environmentally, and economically. This symposium will highlight new wood technologies and applications from global leaders in fenestration, which pertains to the design of windows and other exterior openings of a building.

“We are anticipating high level presentations and discussion on life cycle analysis and environmental product declarations,” said Patrick Donahue, program director at the Natural Resources Research Institute, one of the top sponsors of the event. “There are exciting new designs and market opportunities to explore and wood should be a major player in this arena.”
