Npower’s Bridge House call centre in Hull is delighted to announce its support for Comic Relief’s Red Nose Day 2013 as the selected regional call centre for the night.

On Friday 15 March, Red Nose Day takes over the UK and, in true npower form, staff from the call centre in Hull will be throwing themselves wholeheartedly into the day with various fundraising activities and will have 70 phone lines open until midnight.

More than 120 npower staff from all over the business will be giving up their Friday nights as volunteers manning the phone lines. As well as receiving donations, the team will also be fundraising in the week before with various activities taking place. From embracing 80s themed fancy dress and karaoke, to cakes sales, sponsored head shaves and even wet sponge throwing at managers, the npower staff are committed to raising money. All money raised on site will be added to the £5,000 donation already pledged by npower’s charity committee to Comic Relief.

Joining the dedicated npower staff will be Omari Caro and James Green from local rugby league side, Hull Kingston Rovers who will be showing their support as part of their wider commitment to Red Nose Day. The players have promised their support on the night and plan to help with the fundraising.

Paul Massara, npower’s Chief Executive Officer, commented: “I’m really proud of our team at Bridge House who are happily giving up their own time to support this great cause. Red Nose Day brings the entire nation together to have fun, raise cash and change lives - it is great for npower to play its part.”

Joel Chapman, Executive Relations Manager at npower’s Bridge House office, said: “It’s been a busy few weeks preparing for the big night on Friday, from making sure the phone lines are all ready, to recruiting people to take part in the sponsored head shave, inspired by Jessie J. This is a great example of how well our people come together to support such worthy causes, and I’m really proud to be involved.”

This year’s Red Nose Day support follows on from a hugely successful evening in March 2012, when Bridge House handled around 1,500 calls for Sport Relief and took £44,000 in donations from generous members of the public.

As one of the UK’s biggest fundraising events, Red Nose Day is a UK-wide fundraising event organised by Comic Relief every two years. On Red Nose Day everyone, including celebrities, is encouraged to cast inhibitions aside, put on a Red Nose and do something funny for money. Red Nose Day unites the entire nation in trying to make a difference to the lives of countless people across Africa and the UK who are facing terrible injustice or living in desperate poverty.
