New Novel Delves Into Comic Spirit of Northwoods

"Tales From The Loon Town Cafe" is first novel of native Wisconsin writer, Dennis Frahmann

WEBWIRE

Growing up in small Wisconsin towns, novelist Dennis Frahmann soon learned that almost everyone knew almost everything about almost everyone – or so they thought. In his first novel, Tales from the Loon Town Cafe, Frahmann weaves together the stories and plots of a multitude of characters in a small resort town far in the north of Wisconsin.

It’s set in the go-go eighties. There are big city financiers seeking to exploit the area for a mega-resort, Native Americans flexing new-found rights, young teenagers sorting out romantic lives and oldtimers recalling more than a few improbable events. All of it is seen through the eyes of a New York journalist who returns to his home town to open the restaurant he always wanted to run. Along the way, we get to know well the stories that give life to this small town.

Dennis Frahmann, who now lives in California, grew up near Colby, WI and graduated from high school in Mercer, WI, followed by a degree in English and philosophy from Ripon College and a masters in journalism from Columbia University. Before he entered corporate marketing, he wrote about entertainment and food for Mpls. St. Paul Magazine. He retains his Wisconsin ties as a member of the Ripon College Board of Trustees.
