Recently, a new study supported by the U.S. Army Material Command was released detailing microbial issues associated with heat exchangers in heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems.  Entitled, Characterization and Control of the Microbial Community Affiliated with Copper or Aluminum Heat Exchangers of HVAC Systems, the research discusses microbial growth in building systems and how it can impact indoor air quality (IAQ).

The important study brought to light how bacteria, fungi and biofilms can easily become established in an HVAC system.  Once these microbial contaminants begin to multiply and colonize a part of the system, they can begin to immediately impact the IAQ.  Adverse health implications due to exposure to these microbes were also discussed and included infections, allergic responses and toxic effects.

UltraViolet Devices, Inc. (UVDI), has been working with HVAC companies and indoor air quality professionals for over a decade developing market leading UV-C disinfection products for evaporator coil and airstream disinfection in HVAC systems.  UVDI’s ALTRU-V brand of HVAC products has revolutionized best practices for supplying building occupants with clean air at lower cost.

“By applying real science to optimize the power of UV-C energy, ALTRU-V products provide customers with cutting edge technology for evaporator coil maintenance and air stream disinfection while improving system operating performance and saving energy,” reported Richard Hayes, President of UltraViolet Devices, Inc.   “Building owners, managers and occupants all benefit from the proper application of UV-C disinfection systems in a building’s HVAC equipment”

UVGI systems designed and built by UVDI have been installed in residential, commercial and institutional buildings across the globe.  To learn more about UVDI’s ultraviolet germicidal irradiation technologies, and particulate and molecular filtration systems, please visit www.UVDI.com, email info@UVDI.com or call (877) 787-3882.
