EMSL Speaks at Northern Virginia ASHI Spring Seminar

EMSL is proud to announce that Michael Menz, Environmental Training Manager, EMSL Analytical, Inc., will be speaking on mold and asbestos awareness at the Northern Virginia ASHI Spring Seminar.  The seminar will be held on Friday, March 8th at Best Western Fairfax Hotel, 3535 Chain Bridge Road, Fairfax, VA 22030.
 
Michael’s mold awareness training will provide attendees with a basic understanding of fungal ecology and conditions needed for growth. After the fundamental information on fungi is presented, the training will involve health effects of exposure, sampling and analytical techniques used for the identification of mold, the limitation and advantages of each technique, data interpretation, aspects of building inspection and impact of water intrusion, and useful tools for the inspection of buildings.
 
Michael’s asbestos presentation will provide the hazard communication and employee training required by EPA 40 CFR Part 763 for maintenance workers in schools, and OSHA 29 CFR Part 1926.1101 for 2-hour class IV activity. Topics will include asbestos history, uses and forms; health effects of asbestos, routes of entry, complications from smoking, regulations governing asbestos, testing and analytical methods; controls, work practices and abatement options, vermiculite insulation and naturally occurring asbestos.
 
Michael Menz has been an environmental and hazardous material consultant, trainer and manager for more than 25 years. His experience includes indoor environmental quality evaluations, asbestos investigations, lead based paint consultation and clearance dust examinations, management of large scale remediation projects for site decommissioning, and Phase 1 site assessments. He has been teaching environmental training courses for over 20 years in the Mid-Atlantic region. He is currently providing environmental training and client services throughout the U.S. and Canada for EMSL Analytical, Inc., a nationwide environmental testing laboratory.
