Dr. Jefferson Tester, the Professor of Sustainable Energy Systems at Cornell University, has been appointed as a keynote speaker for the Iceland Geothermal Conference, IGC 2013.

Dr. Tester is the Professor of Sustainable Energy Systems in the School of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering at Cornell University. He also serves as Director of the Cornell Energy Institute and Associate Director for Energy in the Atkinson Center for a Sustainable Future.

As a result of his research on renewable and conventional energy extraction and conversion and environmental control technologies, over 200 scientific publications have been published, alongside 10 co-authored books.

The Iceland Geothermal Conference 2013 is set to focus on the geothermal value chain, and will feature 54 lectures spread out over four days. As part of the conference, the three-main phases of the geothermal value chain will be covered, including the scientific elements of geothermal-drilling; the exploration phase; and the utilisation phase with reference to the resources in Iceland.

Amongst the issues to be discussed include: resource management; finance, risk and insurance management in geothermal projects; role of governments and international funds; rules and regulations, case histories and sustainable resource management, environmental issues related to geothermal energy; and identifying the possibilities of geothermal.

Running alongside the conference will be a geothermal brokerage event, where participants have the opportunity to meet for utilities, investors, vendors, regulators, and government bodies to take an in depth look at the major steps in geothermal projects. Additionally, a brand awareness exhibition will be running during the conference days.

Other confirmed speakers set to share their expert knowledge include Prof. Roland N. Horne, an influential figure within the field of both geothermal and petroleum energy research; Dr. Mike Allen, the executive director of the Geothermal New Zealand initiative; Sri Mulyani Indrawati, the Managing Director of the World Bank; and Thomas DeLeo, the Chief Operating Officer of Sithe Global.

IGC 2013 will be taking place at the Harpa Conference Centre in Reykjavik, Iceland, between 5th and 8th March 2013.
