Leading creative services and content production company first in LA to install Avid’s revolutionary storage system

Tewksbury, Mass. – July 17, 2006 – Avid Technology, Inc. today announced that New Wave Entertainment (NWE), a leading creative services and content production company, is the first Los Angeles-based company to install the Avid Unity ISIS™ system for all collaborative content creation and storage of shared media assets. NWE’s new Avid Unity ISIS storage system replaces three existing Avid Unity™ MediaNetwork systems and one Avid Unity LANshare system and connects a team of 150 content creation professionals and nearly 42 Avid editing systems across two facilities in different locations. NWE has also added five Symphony™ Nitris® finishing systems to further expand its media production capabilities.

“At any given time, we are producing more than 50 DVD Special Features and direct-to-DVD projects, numerous episodic television shows and specials, as well as on-air promotion, broadcast design, and theatrical advertising,” said Paul Apel, co-owner, New Wave Entertainment. “To handle this volume of work across five departments, our producers, editors, designers, and even our composers need broad access to media assets – and that starts with a central storage network that connects every Avid® editing bay. [The] Avid Unity ISIS [storage system] is the only system that offers the real-time performance, storage scalability, and broad connectivity that we need. In addition, the system’s open storage architecture will allow us to extend the power of the shared network to all of the content creation applications we use – whether they come from Avid or another company.”

Brian Boring, west coast regional manager for Avid, added, “As the demand for HD content increases, a number of customers are telling us that their current storage systems are at capacity – in terms of headroom, bandwidth and connectivity. When you consider a company as large and creatively active as NWE – and the storage and real-time challenges that its production teams face on a daily basis – it’s hard to imagine a single system capable of meeting the needs of everyone in two facilities. No such system existed a year ago, but today, just about every NWE project flows through a shared Avid Unity ISIS network. As a result, NWE teams are more connected than ever – to media assets and to each other – allowing them to work together and crank through project after project with greater speed and efficiency.”

Working with Avid and local reseller Key Code Media, NWE completed its purchase of the Avid Unity ISIS and Symphony Nitris systems in March. Now installed and fully operational, these systems supports many of NWE’s media production departments, including Home Entertainment (behind-the-scenes and special features), Television & Feature Film Development & Production, New Wave Creative (print design), The Studio at NWE (creative marketing and design), El Estudio (Spanish language marketing), Zoo Street Music (original composition and music supervision), and Finishing & Post Production.
