Corvette Victory Celebration at GM World Headquarters

WHAT: GM will salute the Corvette Racing team for its fifth class victory in the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the world’s greatest sports car race, with a parade and presentations in downtown Detroit.

WHEN: Tuesday, July 18, 12:30 p.m.

WHERE: GM World Headquarters at the Renaissance Center, Jefferson Ave. lobby

The event will begin with a caravan of Corvette race cars, pace cars and collector cars through the streets of Detroit. The parade will start at Compuware Corporation (primary sponsor of Corvette Racing), travel down Woodward Ave. and Jefferson Ave., and conclude at the Jefferson Ave. lobby of the Renaissance Center. There will be presentation of the 24 Hours of Le Mans trophy and remarks by GM executives, followed by an autograph session with Corvette Racing drivers.

WHO: Ed Peper, Chevrolet general manager; Pete Karmanos, Jr., CEO of Compuware and owner of the Stanley Cup-winning Carolina Hurricanes NHL hockey team; Corvette Racing drivers and team personnel.

WHY: Corvette Racing is an American success story, winning the GT1 class in the 24 Hours of Le Mans five times and defeating marques such as Ferrari, Aston Martin, Lamborghini and Viper in top-level international road racing. The championship-winning Corvette C6.R race cars were developed with GM technical and human resources, and have strong links with the production Corvettes that are sold in Chevrolet showrooms.
