LINCOLNSHIRE, Ill. - Aon Hewitt, the global human resource solutions business of Aon plc (NYSE: AON), announced that Garry Spinks has been appointed as national practice leader for its Higher Education consulting practice.

In his role, Spinks oversees Aon Hewitt’s consulting efforts for more than 300 universities, colleges, academic medical centers and related entities. He leads Aon Hewitt’s University Pathfinders and University Roundtable consortiums, which consist of leading private and public universities and university systems dedicated to developing best-in-class HR, benefits, compensation, investment consulting and communication solutions tailored to the unique needs and challenges facing higher education institutions.

Spinks also manages Aon Hewitt’s University Pathfinder and University Roundtable databases, which provide access to more than 400 custom surveys that have been conducted on behalf of more than 120 universities. Aon Hewitt continually updates these surveys to ensure they align higher education priorities to benefits, compensation and HR issues of concern for colleges and universities today.

“Garry is a strong leader who understands our higher education clients’ distinct needs and offers innovative thinking and solutions that address their unique HR challenges,” said Chris Michalak, global chief commercial officer at Aon Hewitt. “His higher education background and experience, combined with his excellent consultative skills and accounts leadership, will be invaluable as we look to further strengthen Aon Hewitt’s position in the higher education space by empowering results for our clients.”

Spinks has more than 15 years of client management and consulting expertise with senior university administration, board-level and advisory leadership groups and with health policy and project management leadership challenges in employer, multi-employer and consortial contexts. Prior to his new role, Spinks was an account executive at Aon Hewitt, where he served a number of midsize and FORTUNE 500 employers and public and private universities, colleges and college consortiums.

Spinks holds a business degree in finance from Georgia Southern University. He is a Board Member for the Georgia Foundation of Independent Colleges, a member of CUPA-HR’s Corporate Advisory Council and former board member for NACUBO’s Corporate Council.
