Critical Skills and Job Placement via “Strategies for Success” Scholarship Program

SAN DIEGO – – Qualcomm Incorporated (NASDAQ: QCOM) and Manpower San Diego today announced they will award 20 post-9/11 military veterans with scholarships to Manpower’s “Strategies for Success” training and job placement program. These six-month temporary–to-permanent job assignments are part of Manpower’s WorkPath Training Division, which focuses on enhancing career readiness by providing extra skills training and general business essentials for persons seeking to enter or re-enter the workforce. The 20 scholarships present opportunities for veterans with entry level information technology (IT) experience to work at Qualcomm.

San Diego is home to more veterans than any other region of the country — many of whom face job readiness hurdles when transitioning into private sector employment. Manpower and Qualcomm acknowledge that these men and women already possess an impressive depth and breadth of life experiences, maturity and leadership. Qualcomm’s world-class IT environment also will bring their technical acumen to the fore, in positions that include IT engineer/associate, IT storage engineer (entry-level and associate), IT network engineer and IT manager, among others.

“With so many of the fine men and women serving our country in this military town, we are honored as one of the largest employers in the region to support their return to civilian life,” said Dan Sullivan, executive vice president of human resources at Qualcomm. “Our goal is to provide them the opportunity to gain experience and sharpen their skillset so they can flourish in the private sector.”

The Strategies for Success scholarships are structured as long-term temporary job assignments through Manpower, and any San Diego area veteran interested in being considered for the scholarships can send their resumes to jobs4Veterans@manpower-sd.com.

“Manpower San Diego is fully committed to helping our veterans make an effective transition to the civilian workforce — and placing 20 vets at Qualcomm, one of San Diego’s most exciting and in-demand employers, presents outstanding possibilities for their future,” said Phil Blair, chief executive officer and president of Manpower. “We owe these men and women a debt of gratitude and this is one way we can thank them.”

Manpower’s Workpath Training Division not only teaches participants how to enter or re-enter the workforce, but also how to manage their careers to continually position themselves for ongoing advancement and promotion. Scholarship recipients’ work at Qualcomm will be complemented by classroom training sessions, as well as online training modules.
