Vanish Among The Ten Finalists Of The Visual Music Award

WEBWIRE

The winner will be announced on November 23 in Frankfurt

Treviso. With its audiovisual project, VANISH, Fabrica, Benetton Group’s media and communication research centre, is among the ten finalists of the prestigious Visual Music Award.

The fruit of a collaboration between the German filmmaker/programmer Daniel Schwarz and the Italian musician Davide Cairo, both residents at Fabrica, VANISH is a fascinating journey through surreal landscapes, in which music and video have been composed in parallel, influencing each other in their development. Common materials, such as ice, wood, porcelain, metal, and even balsamic vinegar, simultaneously give rise to sounds and imagery. The music draws inspiration from the sounds made by these elements, and through a huge series of algorithms, transforms them into a range of geometric representations that then form the basis for the audio-reactive graphics projections.

VANISH was premiered worldwide on www.vice.com and on www.rollingstoneitalia.it. It was selected as a part of the official competition at important media art festivals, among others, Aesthetica Short Film Festival – York (U.K.) and DOTMOV, a digital film festival organized by online magazine “SHIFT” that is taking place in several cities in Japan and overseas from 2012 to 2013. VANISH will also be exhibited at the Media Circus Festival in New York City.

The Visual Music Award is the most important international competition with awards for the best new media art, experimental film and music video. VANISH was selected among a total of 111 contributions from Germany, Austria, Canada, England, France, Hungary, Japan, Italy, Netherlands, Poland and USA.

The award ceremony will take place on Friday, November 23, 2012, starting at 07.30 pm in the cocoonclub Frankfurt, Carl-Benz- Str. 21, 60386 Frankfurt/M. Admission is free.
