CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Duke Energy Corp. today announced it has filed a prospectus supplement with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) for the issuance of corporate notes through Incapital’s InterNotes® program.

Duke Energy InterNotes will be senior unsecured obligations of Duke Energy Corp. to be issued on a recurring basis.

Duke Energy InterNotes may be issued with fixed or floating interest rates, in denominations of $1,000 or integral multiples of $1,000 and with maturities between one and 30 years. The specific terms of the notes will be set prior to the time of sale and described in a pricing supplement.

Under the program, Duke Energy Corp. will use the net proceeds from the sale of the notes for general corporate purposes, which may include capital expenditures and the repayment of other debt.

Duke Energy InterNotes differ from Duke Energy PremierNotes, which the company launched in a separate offering in April 2011. PremierNotes are variable rate demand notes where investors may use checks to redeem their investments on demand.

PremierNotes are short-term in nature with floating interest rates while InterNotes are longer term in nature and may be issued with fixed or floating interest rates.

Incapital will serve as the purchasing agent and will also oversee distribution of the Duke Energy InterNotes.

Copies of the prospectus supplement and the accompanying prospectus relating to the offering of Duke Energy InterNotes® may be obtained by calling toll free at 1-800-488-3853.
