New Ford Mondeo named greenest car

For the second year running the Ford Mondeo celebrates its win of What Car?’s Greenest Car Award at the industry magazine’s annual Green Awards in September. Chas Hallett, What Car? editor-in-chief said: “it’s still the best in its class because it offers the best combination of practicality, driver involvement, performance and low environmental impact.”

The Mondeo is a modern-day classic. From its dynamic and elegant styling, to its dynamic driving, it is a driver’s car that makes driving simultaneously more efficient and more fun. The PowerShift six-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission makes driving easier, whilst saving fuel with smoother changes. Advanced suspension ensures the steering is always responsive, and to top it off – Ford even created an Eco Mode for the Mondeo, so you can opt for the car to analyse your driving behaviour and offer advice on more efficient driving.

In terms of in-car technology, the Mondeo features all you could want, and nothing you don’t want at the same time. The Dual-zone Electronic Automatic Temperature Control keeps you cool, but not your passenger if they aren’t feeling the heat.

Designed with Bluetooth to help answer calls, you can still be available even when you’re on the road. The trip computer will keep track of all the statistics for your journey, so you can see at a glance your average fuel consumption, speed, outside air temp and how many more miles are in the tank. And when you leave, the Mondeo has remote control locking, with a double lock function, to keep your car safe.

The stylish, dynamic and sportier profile of the Mondeo doesn’t just look good, it also means that the vehicle is better built for aerodynamics and creates less drag – meaning it uses less fuel.  The design is sharper, with an optional rear spoiler for maximum grip.  It also features low-energy LED daytime running lights to ensure you can find your way, without using unnecessary energy.

All of these features play their part in the Mondeo’s green credentials, and to top it all off, thanks to an official combined fuel economy figure of 65.7mpg and CO2 emissions of 114g/km owners pay road tax of only £30 a year. The magazine’s green judging panel selected the 115PS Ford Mondeo’s Zetec series as offering the best blend of affordability and equipment, including climate control, cruise control and Bluetooth phone connectivity as standard.

Ready for release in 2013, the Ford Mondeo will receive a facelift. The 2013 styling will feature the new trapezoidal grille – already seen on the new Fiesta and B-Max models. The vehicle will also have a much more upright front, with higher, horizontal headlights and a gaping mouth, suggesting a car that owns the road.
