The New Jaguar F-Type Revealed

WEBWIRE

After much anticipation, the Jaguar F-Type was finally revealed at the 2012 Paris Motor Show. This was the realised version of the C-X16 concept car. The name “F-Type” was given to mark not just the continuation of the brand, but also the progression from previous models like the E-Type.

After the excitement that was created after the 2011 concept was released, the Jaguar design team was eager to deliver the new F-Type as soon as possible. The excitement created was due to the sleek and elegant design combined with cutting edge performance technology, which positions the F-Type firmly at the head of the market.

The new F-Type comes in two 3.0-litre V6 engines or the even more powerful 5.0-litre V8 – all with supercharged engines. The entry level F-Type covers 0-60mph in 5.1 seconds and has a top speed of 161mph, while the F-Type S has statistics of 4.8 seconds and 171mph, compared to the entry level edition. The headlining V8 F-Type S covers 0-60mph in a ballistic 4.2 seconds and reaches speeds of 186mph. The V8 exclusively benefits from Active Differential, which gives you full electronic control of rear differential lock for ultimate agility and control. The F-Type S editions come with Active Damping to respond to the way you’re driving and the conditions of the road, while the intelligent system optimises torque when accelerating out of corners too. Should you be driving in poor conditions, the Winter Mode increases safety by controlling throttle response and gearshift to keep traction throughout in slippery conditions.

You can configure the driving dynamic to meet your needs; you’ll never be without power and control. You can choose from automatic or manual transmissions, where easy access paddles on the steering wheel make gear-changing effortless, while close gear ratios maximise torque and power throughout. Should you want an even more sporty experience, Dynamic Mode alters torque and gearshift to increase responsiveness too – while the steering benefits from the same fast response technology.

To keep the F-Type as aerodynamic as possible, the innovative handles remain flat to reduce air disturbance, while the rear spoiler raises at 60mph to reduce lift by 120kg and the front splitter increases this effect and directs air through to cool the brakes. The braking structure is fitted with three powerful systems that help give you maximum control thanks to the aluminium callipers, while the double wishbone suspension is made out of forged alloy so it can absorb any bumps in the road, regardless of how dynamic your driving is.

The interior is fitted with a Driver Centric set up, sitting you as low to the ground as possible. The seats are fitted with sophisticated black and red leather. All the car’s information and control systems are accessible through the central panel and you can even view performance information thanks to the Dynamic-I System display, showing you that the F-Type is leading the field when it comes to performance road cars. The convertible roof can be safely retracted at speeds of up to 30mph and only takes 12 seconds to raise and lower.
