Sarasota, Fl, USA – Dr. Diane Shubinsky, author of the renowned two books “An Advanced Academic Reader, 1&2” is now releasing separate advanced reading skills modules at teacherspayteachers.com

Dr. Diane Shubinsky has been teaching advanced reading skills to non-native speakers for over twenty years. As an expert in this field she has produced two books. Book 1 concentrates on the seven basic advanced reading skills: 1) reference; 2) main ideas; 3) examples; 4) contrast; 5) addition; 6) cause and effect; 7) inference.
Selling modules rather than a complete book has advantages for both teachers and students. Not all the skills may need to be practiced and here just the relevant ones can be chosen.

Dr. Shubinsky has designed the unit with two clear aims: First to teach one of the skills and second, improve the reader’s vocabulary. Each unit has the same basic structure and is designed to cover theory and practice.

The Theory: The skill is divided into points. Each point is fully explained and examples given.

The Practice: A text that is specifically written to deal with the skill being taught, questions on the text that concentrate on that particular skill, vocabulary exercises.

While this summary may make the book sound like any other book, Dr. Shubinsky
has developed certain unique features, for example, the way in which the vocabulary is presented. First, the new academic words from the text are divided into order of difficulty and importance. These words are given again in a quick glossary at the side of the text. The various vocabulary exercises that follow ensure that the reader will encounter these new words at least five times in every unit.

The first skill: “Reference” is free and available on the site: teacherspayteachers.com
