Surich Technologies Inc. today is proud to announce its latest app, Bionic-Eye: Real - time facial recognition for the iPhone. Bionic-Eye is an augmented reality app that attempts to bring the same technology used by security cameras and surveillance professionals to hand held devices.

Bionic-Eye provides facial recognition on the iPhone by utilizing an internal biometric algorithm, with the combination of facial metrics to detect and identify subjects.

Face detection, currently available today on most phones, is the ability to detect a face in a picture or live feed. However a facial recognition system, is the ability for a computer program to automatically identify or verify a person from a digital image or from a video source, and that’s what makes this app interesting.

One simply points the phone towards the person and Bionic-Eye uses the phones camera to capture the persons face using the face detector algorithm, it then identifies the person against a trained database of know faces.

Once a match is found the person’s info is displayed assigning a confidence value to the match. If no match is found one is given the option to create or add the face to the facial database profile.

This is another example of how augmented reality type apps can enhance our lives. This type of technology in the hands of the consumer opens up a number of exciting possibilities in the area of biometrics.

The current version matches and identifies people against a locally trained database on the phone, but the pro version due out soon can detect against an external data source.

Bionic-Eye 1.0 is now available world-wide, on the Apple App Store in the Photo & Video category.
