Munich, Jul 10, 2006, Siemens Business Services today announced that it has been awarded a major new contract in the UK to develop a new payment and accounting system for the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP). The contract is worth 85 million euros (59 million GBP) and is scheduled to run to 2010. It will provide an integrated payment and accounting system which will modernize how the DWP makes, manages and accounts for the 160 billion euros of benefits, pensions and allowances paid annually to its 17 million customers.

Already a leading supplier of IT services to the UK Government, Siemens Business
Services will be responsible for working with the DWP through the development,
delivery and ongoing system management and maintenance of a new Central Payment System (CPS). Based on the Oracle E-Business Suite, the CPS will integrate with existing DWP systems and processes and will provide improved customer service through faster, more accurate payments and greater accounting controls.

Just about everyone in Great Britain will deal with the Department for Work and Pensions or one of its eight businesses at some point in their lifetime: Jobcentre Plus, the Pension Service, Child Support Agency, Disability and Carers Service, the Health and Safety Commission and Health and Safety Executive, the Rent Service and Debt Management. The DWP main customer groups are: children, people of working age, pensioners, disabled people and their carers. http://www.dwp.gov.uk/
